It is the most wonderful time of the year, quite literally. Of course, the song is completely relevant but totally true as well. The air is cold and crisp, there is delicious food surrounding you at seemingly every corner, and the holiday travel has begun.
Personally, we are flying home for Christmas and I couldn’t be more excited! I used to think people who traveled on the holidays were simply crazy. Why would you want to be away from home during your only time to be lazy and spend time with your family?
But, for most people, travel is necessary to spend time with their family. For others, traveling during the holidays is a tradition. And, for a few others, traveling during the holidays is just a way to get away from all the craziness of the holidays and truly enjoy their time off.
Regardless of the “why” behind your travel though, there is no doubt that traveling around the holidays can get a bit crazy. Everyone – and their mom – is running around crazy trying to get to where they need to be. So, when you decide to join the craziness, keep these travel tips in mind:
- Leave early
Even if you have taken this route or this flight hundreds of times, always leave early during the holidays. The traffic will be worse.
- Pay attention to your connections
Typically, you have a specific way you book a flight. And, that method might not involve really paying much attention to where your layover is if you just really don’t care. But, during the holidays, always check your connections.
Some locations could present extensive weather issues and delays.
- Stay calm
The best way to keep everything inline is to just take a deep breath and stay as calm as you possibly can. Getting overwhelmed and angry will not get the situation taken care of any faster. And, it definitely won’t be any more pleasant.
